Puffin Fest is back! Last year I took part in the Scottish Seabird Centre’s first ever Puffin Festival and was kindly asked to take part again. The festival runs from 15 to 25 May and will host a 10-day puffin celebration with fascinating facts, games, activities and competitions for the whole family. For more information visit the Scottish Seabird Centre site. There will be a group exhibition, here are two of my pieces . . .

Recently I was delighted to be asked to contribute a piece of work to this year’s Le Immagini della fantasia exhibition. The Exhibition was conceived in 1982 by illustrator Štěpán Zavřel and has since gone on to become an international event that has celebrated hundreds of illustrator’s work. My work will be part of a collection by Edinburgh College of Art, which aims to celebrate Scotland by illustrating the 12 months. Vivian French wrote the beautiful words for each month.
My month was May, which was perfect as I spent may Mays on the Isle of Skye with my sister when I was a child. The image is my homage to the beautiful coral beach and it’s very nosy inhabitants!! I will add details of the exhibition and when you can see the students work as and when I know.
I spent last Friday night in the Scottish National Museum, cutting up Mammoths! It was a surreal experience. The Red Door gallery was set up amongst the wonderful creatures in the animal galleries, whilst in the main hall there were flash mobs. My friend and fellow illustrator, Laura Manson, helped us put together around 300 cut-out-and-make Mammoths. My fingers were sore the next day . . . hardcore. It was a wonderful night and I was delighted the Red Door invited me to take part. I will certainly be going back to more Museum Lates – maybe I will get to drink more wine as a guest! Here are a few photos from the evening (the first courtesy of the Red Door Gallery).
Our degree show opened to the public this Saturday. Here are a few photos of my space, showing limited edition prints and the two children’s books I created, Soot and Follow that Sparrow. Soot is also being exhibited as a high commended entry in the 2012 Macmillan prize and can be seen at Foyles bookstore in London.
There are many wonderful things to see at the show, which runs until Monday 11 June. If you are in Edinburgh come along to see it, and make sure to stop by and visit illustration in Evolution House (4th floor).
I have decided to start a blog. I must admit I was concerned to take on something else, but I have often thought it would be nice to share work in progress, plus anything interesting I have come across! So, for my first entry I have posted details about the postgraduate group exhibition at the Red Door Gallery. I have never organiised an exhibition before, but this was small and I got a lot of help! We were all really pleased with the work produced on the concept of ‘flight’. If you are visiting Edinburgh in the next month please pop into the Red Door Gallery and have a look.
