Upcycled? 1950’s boarding school trunk

Trunk1 Trunk2I am not sure if this is strictly an upcycle project – more of a ‘clean it up’ project! Last week we found a 1950’s trunk on gumtree for £35 and decided it would be great for extra storage. However, it was a little unloved and once we got it home it definitely had a musty smell about it. So to start with, we left it to air out for a good few days. I then scrubbed all the dirt and rust off it. Once it was dry, I re-papered the inside as it had an old tartan design that had long gone yellow. Finally I tidied up the edges with some ribbon. I am using the lid as a place to keep all Oscar-related design and illustration work I have done. Here are a couple of photos of the finished trunk – unfortunately I don’t have any pictures of it when we first got it, just imagine it covered in dirt.
